Project detail

The Sustainable wetland management in the central Ayeyarwaddy river basin project is a project to establish a local-based freshwater fish conservation area in cooperation with the local residents and the Department of Fisheries, based on scientific data and the socio-economic conditions of the local people. The fish habitats are important that can be abundant fish resources in the long term. This project will abundance the fish life resources in the region in the long term, and the local people, it aims to benefit the region and the country. This project is a project of Fauna & Flora-Myanmar Programme, Mandalay Region, in some villages along the Irrawaddy River, in cooperation with local villages, to establish local-based freshwater fish conservation areas (Fish Conservation Area-FCA).

This project will be carried out in collaboration with the Fauna & Flora -Myanmar Program and the local partner organization, Marine Science Association Myanmar (MSAM). In order to get information about this project, two (2) employees from the MSAM team, in collaboration with the local Fisheries Department, Mandalay Region, MSAM visited the project villages in Tagound City and Nyaung Oo Township to carry out fish survey. During the survey,MSAM team visit the villages where the project is intended to be carried out and meet with local fishermen, meeting with other interested stakeholders and conducting survey on the use of fishery resources and socio-economic survey and fishery interview survey of the local community.
